Carnival dates back on 1094 in a document of Falier Doge.
During Serenissima Republic people needed a period of the year for party with games, music and dancing through the city; so on this period all tension between social levels were lower.
People weared masks and customes so they could hide their identity and so social class, sex and religion. Everyone could change his behaviors based on new costumes.
For this reason, the greeting that sounded constantly in the act of crossing someone was simply " Good Evening Mrs Mask ".
Joyful participation and anonimity were, and still are, the Carnival essence.
